Testing on the Nürburgring offers a preview of the facelifted S-Class, the segment’s enduring flagship. While the era of the grand luxury sedan faces evolving definitions, Mercedes-Benz continues to refine this icon, now targeting its fourth model-year anniversary with a significant design refresh. The latest spy shots capture heavily camouflaged prototypes, but strategic glimpses reveal a notable pivot in styling, particularly at the front fascia.
The front view confirms a substantial departure from the current design. The most striking change is the dramatically enlarged grille, now appearing significantly taller and more imposing. This expansion necessitates an all-new front bumper, which features a smaller, subtly integrated central air intake, creating a balanced, muscular stance. The lighting units also appear to be updated, suggesting a fresh interpretation of the signature Mercedes-Benz headlight design.
Moving to the rear, another prototype provides a glimpse beneath the camouflage. The body lines are largely consistent with the outgoing model, but analysts expect a refreshed bumper design and updated taillights to maintain a modern aesthetic. Subtle tweaks to the reflectors and exhaust finishers may also be part of the package, all aimed at keeping the S-Class at the forefront of automotive luxury design.

Under the hood, the S-Class will continue to offer its renowned powertrain lineup. For ultimate performance, the twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 remains available with 621 hp (463 kW / 630 PS). Additionally, customers can opt for a plug-in hybrid powertrain that boasts an electric-only range of 46 miles (74 km), offering sustainable performance without compromising on luxury.
